INCLUDED IN TUITION is daily enrichment programs. These programs engage the children in a wide variety of cultural and social experiences while building upon the fundamental learning tools developed in the classroom.
Liquid as well as dry measurements and fractions are all reinforced as the children read a recipe and follow directions. Students participate in activities such as sifting, pouring, stirring, mixing and even cracking eggs -- one step is more exciting than the next. Children who prepare their food are more willing to taste foods they would otherwise be reluctant to try. The highlight of that day is when the students eat what they prepared.
Our hands-on science program sparks a thirst for knowledge and the wonder of science. Multiple topics are introduced throughout the year and studied in-depth. The children ask investigative questions that stimulate their ability and desire to learn. Every week each child completes and takes home a project. Parents are often heard on Tuesdays asking their child, “What did you learn in science today?” Children enjoy showing their family the project made that day. The level of detail your child learned may surprise you.
Si, hablo espanol! Wednesdays, the children are introduced to Spanish language and culture. Entertaining tools such as conversation, songs and games are utilized to emphasize vocabulary, pronunciation, phonics, reading and writing. A kindergarten student from MCDC was being evaluated for first grade and when asked to count inquired, “In English or in Spanish?”
What a sight to behold...children in our All Purpose Room moving and grooving to a variety of music as diverse as a current pop-culture artist to a famous classical arrangement. Early musical training develops the areas of the brain known to be involved with processing mathematics and reasoning. The joy of music is discovered through songs, movement, rhythm and notes. Children listen and identify works by famous composers and artists. Each child is given an opportunity to play the instrument selected for that day. Talent levels vary in September and crescendo in June.
Everyone loves to learn something about the famous artists and their style of painting. The children explore and paint in different styles of such masters as Monet, Picasso and VanGogh. Like all our other enrichment programs, art is hands-on, so “paint clothes” are preferred! Imagine your surprise when your child proudly proclaims the artist’s name of a famous painting shown on television or seen in the doctor’s office. Many of our families attend an art museum to further build upon this basic foundation.
